I asked my dad and Grandma about chores that they had when they were little, and how they prepared food and these were the answers I got:
My Grandma said that she used to iron, hang clothes on a clothing line, and cut the grass. She said that she had an electric stove, but she didn’t have to cook. Her father had a garden and she went to the market to pick up food. She likes the present better because she thinks we have more responsibilities.
My dad lived on a farm so he had to milk cows, feed animals, clean the barn, bail hay, ride a tractor, and many other farm chores. His family grew corn and got milk from their cows. There was a nearby grocery store and when he lived in MA, he would get fresh fish. He would also bring the cows to a butcher. He likes the present better because there are better jobs and better food.
I would rathe live in this generation because I wouldn’t want to do as many chores as my dad did and we have better technology than they did when my Dad or Grandma were kids.
It’s actually quite amazing when you think about the past. When my dad was young, there were no computers. It’s really hard for me to imagine a time with no computers when I’m spending so much time typing on them to show people from across the world.

Thanksgiving is a time for thanking everyone for all they have done for you. You give thanks to God for watching over you and giving you all you have. You thank your parents for raising and feeding you. You thank your friends for being there for you. It is a time of gathering with people you don’t often see.
I have a large family so we gather around 5 tables that are connected and eat. We have turkey, stuffing, corn, bread, casseroles, mashed potatoes, and strawberry pretzel salad. Then for desert we have pie and cookies and more strawberry pretzel salad.
Here are some Thanksgiving myths-
I bet you thought that the Pilgrims had the first Thanksgiving. Well not according to the Texans. They claim that the first Thanksgiving was in San Elizario in 1538 which is 23 years before the Pilgrims did.
You might think the Pilgrims ate corn on the cob, apples, pears, potatoes or even cranberries, but they didn’t. No one even knows if they ate turkey. We only know that they had deer. We got the idea of eating turkey from the Victorians.
Did you know that Pilgrims didn’t dress in black? They didn’t wear funny buckles, weird shoes, or tall steeple hats either.
See you learn new things everyday!

Oh my gosh! It’s the last week of the student blogging competition! Well here goes…
Some statistics about your blog.
How many comments did you write on other blogs?
How has blogging improved your literacy skills?
Your best post
Where you have improved the most
Skills you have learnt
Why is it good to write with a world wide audience in mind?
I have 35 posts. Well this will be 36. I have over 90 comments. I don’t know how many visitors because many people came back more than once so somewhere between 30-60 I’m guessing. I had about 8 countries spread out on 5 continents. I have 6 links on my blogroll. I don’t know what else I have because I haven’t quite kept track.
I’ve commented on a lot of other blogs but I don’t know how many. I have been to several blogs several times so I haven’t kept track of how many times.
Blogging has really helped me improve my writing. My posts have gotten better. I think my best post is the one on poverty.

I really wrote what I felt and that is a better way of writing than just saying something.
Blogging has increased my knowledge of the global Internet and its power. I have learned that just by typing something and hitting PUBLISH, you can put that knowledge where anyone in the world can see it. I have met people from Australia and Argentina without actually leaving my house. It’s amazing!
It is good to write with a worldwide audience in mind because anyone can see what you wrote and you want everyone to understand and enjoy it.
Also, on the rubric, I gave myself an 11 out of 12. I had two 4’s and one 3. I think I did well.
I am so grateful for this competition. it has been so much fun. I want to thank my teacher for allowing us to do this and to Miss Wyatt. Also, thanks to everyone who left a comment on my blog.
This is really a great opportunity. Thanks again!

In the 19th century, children bound their books and carried them at their hip. They had little homework because they had chores to do at home. Books were limited so they only read at school.
Nowadays, we carry books in backpacks. We get more homework than they did but we don’t do work like they did when they got home. We don’t read that often either but it’s not because books are limited. It’s because we have invented a thing called television. We would rather see an image than words. But, we have many more books than they did. They would think we are lucky but we don’t think so because we think we get too much homework.

The ICRI International Year of the Reef 2008 is an campaign to show people the importance of coral reefs. It is also to show that they are being threatened and to get people to help protect them. I feel coral reefs need to be protected. There are many species of marine life that are at stake. The coral reefs are being threatened by pollution, too much fishing, and being overused. These poor animals and all the scientific research that these animals have or will bring us can disappearbefore our eyes. We need to stop and take time to fix it. I love fish and sea animals and I would hate to see the marine life in the coral reefs disappear. We are trying to protect endangered species in the wild. Well, these are endangered species of fish. They need our help too. I chose this topic because I feel that it is important and we need to help the coral reefs.

I have found out that already 10 percent of coral reefs are dead and scientists say that 70 percent will be lost in the next 20 to 40 years. We can change that if we do something about it. That’s why we need to act now. We need to stop polluting, fishing too much, dumping sewage into the ocean, and overusing the reefs. Maybe if we help than that 70 percent won’t die. Even if some do, we can still save others.

Look at these pictures. Would you really want to kill such a beautiful as this? Would you want to kill these beautiful fish and these wonderful places? We have to do something about it!

How can you recycle?
It’s not really hard. My family doesn’t throw away the paper or any bottle and cans that we have used. We put it in the recycle bin. We don’t just waste paper. We use it and any scraps that we can. In school there are bins for plastic bottles and for paper that are separate from the regular trash baskets.
So recycle by throwing paper or bottles into special bins that will be recycled and reuse whatever you can. Also, you can use less energy by not leaving lights or the sink on. That is a way to save energy.
There are soooooo many ways you can help the environment. Even if it’s something as simple as recycling. It can change our world.
Go recycle today! stubc08
